We appreciate your presence as we officially unveil the upcoming summit, which will take place on 12 and 13 November 2026, centred on the theme “AI for Sustainability.” This summit marks another important milestone in Penang’s journey towards becoming a greener, smarter, and more resilient state. As we move closer to realising the Penang2030 Vision – A Family Focused, Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation, we recognise that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer merely an emerging
technology. It is a transformative force that can accelerate sustainable development, strengthen governance, and unlock new opportunities for our economy and communities.

Penang has already begun integrating AI and smart technologies into various aspects of governance and urban management. These include intelligent traffic management systems, smart city monitoring & digital services, and the adoption of AI-driven technologies in the manufacturing sector to improve energy efficiency and operational sustainability. Such initiatives demonstrate that AI is not a distant concept, but a practical tool already supporting Penang’s progress towards becoming a green and smart state.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The Penang Green Summit 2026 aims to position Penang as a leading hub for AI-driven environmental innovation. AI will play a significant role in enhancing Penang’s economic competitiveness, driving digital transformation, and fostering innovation-led growth. More importantly, it offers practical solutions to address some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. Through this platform, we seek to showcase practical AI applications that deliver measurable ESG outcomes, while demonstrating how technology can improve efficiency in energy, waste management, mobility, water systems, and climate action. As many of you know, Penang’s industrial sector contributes nearly 50% of the Penang State’s GDP. This strong manufacturing base places Penang in a unique position to lead the integration of AI into sustainable industrial practices.

At the same time, sustainability is not only about technology or industry. It is also about people. This summit will highlight the future of sustainability where AI can support better city planning, cleaner transportation, waste management and more responsive governance.
